What a beautiful fall day....Come enjoy!

Wow, what a beautiful fall day and evening! I just went outside and snapped a few picture as the sun was setting. This week has been homecoming week in Bedford, what a wonderful day for a parade and football game!

This is one of my recycled ideas...I had plenty of old wooden ironing boards, so I decided to make this one into a bench! Good place to take a break from sewing!

This picture is just outside the sewing room. Wish someone was here to share it with me tonight, I'm a harvest widow right now as my hubby helps the neighbor getting his crops in. I still have room this fall for retreaters, just give me a call or email! I am thinking of having a day class a time or two this fall, so let me know if you're interested in that. I could either teach a class or you could just work on your own projects.

The impatience were exceptionally beautiful this year. (Click on the picture to get a bigger image)

This is the view to the north of our house...the corn should be ready to harvest soon, but they need to get all the beans picked 1st.
Going to the AQS show again tomorrow and also to the covered bridge festival and quilt show in Winterset. Hope to see some of ya there!! Please tap me on the shoulder and say Howdy!

All dressed up for the AQS show in Des Moines!

WOW!!! What a day at theAQS show in Des Moines! Sure a lot to look at all in one day! This was the 1st time for me to dress up as "the Farmer's Dotter". It was lots of fun and boy did I get a lot of looks, good or bad, remains to be seen! Hope ya'll didn't think I was too crazy! Normally, I would just as soon blend into the crowd, but today I was trying to promote the Farmer's Dotter, so please give me a call or email! On our way out of town we stopped at the Brass Armadillo. We enjoyed looking at Janet Catron's Booth # 137. She has all kinds of vintage sewing things if you like that kind of stuff.

Me, all dressed up as the Farmer's Dotter. I made my dress out of an old table cloth with polka dots on it. I love to re-purpose and recycle things!

Howdy everyone! Who's going to the AQS show this week? I'm going up tomorrow and Saturday. Hope to see some of ya there! Look for me....I'll be dressed as the Farmer's Dotter in polka dots with my Dad's hat and boots on! I'll post pictures after I've been there! Also, look for my ad in their brochure.

Weekly polka dots!

Polka Dots in old quilts...gotta love 'em! I decided I wanted the name of a quilt block for my business and thought the quilt block Farmer's Daughter was best suited. I knew that name wouldn't be available for a website, so that's why I chose to spell it Farmer's Dotter. I didn't realize how many polka dots there are in old quilts until I chose my name and now I notice all the polka dots! They are so much fun!

Fall fans to take to craft show

Thought ya'all might like to see some quilts instead of pumpkins and Kooper! I made these from some vintage blocks that I've had around for awhile. I am going to have a booth at the Clarinda craft show on October 16th and will have some of these blocks for sale along with a lot of other "stuff"!
Click on the picture if you want to see it bigger.

Picking pumpkins with Kooper!

We love the outdoors! Kooper helped to harvest the pumpkins and gourds at Grandma's house.

Pumpkin time!! We harvested the few pumpkins and gourds in my garden and then went to the BIG pumpkin patch at the Longabaugh's in rural Bedford. Lots of fun!!

Oops, the internet special on my website has the wrong date on it! It should be July 1st, 2011. Maybe that's why no one's been calling! Please give me a call or email. It's getting cooler now, good time to snuggle in and quilt!

This is a picture of my kids with my Mom and Dad in mid 80's.

They had a big pumpkin patch for the grandkids.
The back end of the pickup was full of all the pumpkins and I think there was even more left in the field.

Kooper helping Grandma. He was a good helper, even had his own gloves and boots! He thought he was pretty big stuff! This was my Grandma Davison's old house and we were getting a few things out before it gets torn down. I was glad to have help (Lonnie and Tara helped too) We had a lot of good memories in that old house. The property has been in the Davison family for over 150 years. It was named a Heritage Farm before my brother passed away.

Happy fall ya'll! I love to decorate for the different seasons, so come take a look! I have lots of openings this fall and winter, so PLEASE give me a call or email! Also, anyone that wants to help me spread the word about the Farmer's Dotter, I would be happy to send you a flyer and business cards to pass out at your quilt guild meetings, etc. I would love to come visit at your meetings also, just let me know what might work good for you.

There's gonna be a new sheriff in town! For those of you who don't know me, my hubby Lonnie has been sheriff of Taylor County for the last 14 years. He is retiring in November and our son Josh is running for sheriff! If he gets it , he will be the 3rd generation. His Grandpa, Marven Weed was sheriff for 14 years. So we have been a little busy campaigning! If you live in Taylor County, we would appreciate your support! Thanks!--From the Weed's

Please leave a comment if you'd like to!

Blue Ribbon Quilts - Iowa State Fair 2010 » Iowa State Fair » Iowa Public Television

These are just some of the wonderful quilts that my friend, Gwen Cox, from Birmingham, Alabama, and I saw at the fair last week. (Gwen took all the pictures, since I forgot my camera)

School is starting!! Melissa Spencer is going off to college and we got her T-shirt comforter done just in time! Lonnie even helped with this one! He's actually a good helper, when I can get him to stay home long enough!

This was Lonnie's idea to put the name on the quilt and to tie it up like this. The ties are leftovers from the t-shirts and I told Melissa she had to recycle them, since I like to recycle everything I can!

These are pictures of a fall throw that I started about 2 years ago. They are pieces that I got from my friend, Gwen Cox. Glad to "get er done"!

We are having much better weather now here in Southwest Iowa! Yeah!!! I finished up with my marathon retreats (5 weekends in a row!) and now have a little time to catch my breath! Today I finished up a fall throw that I'll be anxious to use this fall. Yesterday I finished a little wall hanging / table topper. It is part of a quilt top that I picked up at an estate sale and I have 3 more that I will try to sell at a craft show or guild meeting.

Farmer's Daughter Quilt

Another HOT day in Iowa--the heat index is supposed to be up around 110! Stay inside where it's cool! Here's another quilt I made with mostly vintage scraps and lots of polka dot! This is the Farmer's Daughter pattern that I decided to make after choosing the name of my business. It has 7 feedsacks on the back. That's our grandson, Kooper Dane laying on the quilt. He loves quilts too! I have free patterns for this quilt, if anyone is interested.

Is it hot enough for all of you? At least it's tomato season!! That's a good thing! These tomatoes are actually from last years garden. I try to serve home-grown veggies and meats here at the Farmer's Dotter and hope to have some extra produce to send home with you! We made lots of salsa last year from these tomatoes.

I hope to make this my next pattern for sale. Is anyone interested in it? I picked these blocks up at a garage sale a few years ago and finished them into a full-sized quilt. I have seen it called Little Lacy in a Sun-Bonnet Sue book. I am working on making it in a smaller pattern for a baby quilt, and I'm planning on calling it Little Lindsay, after my dotter (love to spell it that way, even though I know it's not right!) Let me know if you're interested in a pattern.

This was a T-shirt quilt that Jacque Johnson, the owner of the Adel Quilt Shop, made while she was here.

I had another great weekend with the quilters from Adel! Just a few pictures to show ya what they were doing.
